Hey runners!

I hope you're finding this site useful and informative.

While adverturing on your runs is highly encouraged, I also want to stress how important it is to be safe. If you're not running with a team or a partner, please let somebody know where you are going (or intending to go) before hand. Some tips:

- If you're about to embark on a new run, be aware of the mile markers and be aware of your own pace.  If you were supposed to pass McDonalds after about 45 minutes and it's been 60 minutes, take a breather to figure out where you are. Don't panic, and don't be afraid to ask for directions.

-Before or after you embark on your run, when looking at the map, feel free to change the route-- it won't save the changes to this site, even if you click "Save Route." If you choose to do that, it will simply save to an enitrely new URL. So, drag/drop, add-on, cut-off all you want!

- Use the "Street View" feature on Google Maps to get a glimpse of what you can anticipate seeing on your run. It may help to familiarize yourself with intersections and other critical points you will pass. Write the street names on your hands (it's probably best to do it on the outside, not your sweaty palms!) if memorizing them feels overwhelming.

-While on the Google Map site, notice the "Elevation: off small large" buttons. If you're concerned about hills or would like to mentally prepare yourself for the "ups and downs" of your run, this feature will allow you to get a glimpse of the elevation mile by mile.

-Some of these roads are busy, windy, and not designed for runners-- especially not for groups! Make sure to tuck in on the shoulders and be weary of blind spots.

-If you're going to run at night, make yourself extremely visible by wearing reflective gear and try to stay close to campus.

-Lastly, as always, make sure to have fun. Remember that getting lost can be a good thing...maybe you'll discover a new run you like! And if that is the case, make sure to send it my way and I'll post it on the site.

Much love,
Sandy
